From the original world to today
The original Chobots opened to players in 2008 and closed in 2011. Chotopia, founded in 2014, is a fan-made revival that now offers browser and desktop ways to return to the virtual world.
The original virtual world
The original Chobots was a social online world where players created a character called a Cho, explored shared locations, chatted, played games, completed activities, and collected items. It entered public beta in 2008, and the original service ended in 2011.

2008
By October 2008, Chobots.com was in public beta. Its official blog introduced a social world with quests, avatar and home customization, pets, parties, and live moderation.

Chotopia was founded in 2014. Its surviving official blog documents the project from April, when the team published a new website theme and its first contest.

In January 2021, Chotopia announced a shutdown as browser support for Adobe Flash ended.

A November 2023 team update reported that Chotopia had returned in February 2022, with downloadable clients and access to existing accounts.

Today, players can use the modern browser player, a classic Pale Moon option, or desktop downloads for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The modern browser player works without installing Flash. Players with a compatible Pale Moon setup can also choose the classic player, while desktop clients provide a dedicated Chotopia window.
